Stephanie Edwards is a ceramic artist born and raised in Brooklyn.
She is no longer content with throwing simple pottery. Her artistic philosophy centers the work contributing to and preserving the Black Memory. Her wheel thrown vessels are carved and sculpted with scenes that capture her experience as a member of the African diaspora. Each vessel is embossed with imagery that is designed to sustain historical archives. Black people were here, we are here, and will be here.
Stephanie completed her Masters of Art in Teaching in 2014. She was a recipient of the Michael Lax Fellowship to attend Haystack in the Summer of 2024 and an Anderson Ranch scholarship in 2025. She will be taking part in her first art residency in Watershed Center of Ceramic Arts this summer. She is currently designing work that explores the different ways to incorporate her deep love and reverence for bodies of water in her work.
